Zoo Time

Asher, Orvalle, Luke, and I went to the Zoo the other weekend. We had a blast! (We really try to do something fun together on the weekends since I started working. ) The petting zoo was Asher's favorite part. He didn't want to leave. In fact, we shut the place down! Luke, however, really didn't care for the petting zoo. He just stood there expressionless. He did think it was funny to see Uncle Bubba and Asher inside the fences as we both look in. Those boys are so funny.

I cannot believe how long it has been since I last blogged. Things are crazy around here. Asher is displaying a little preview of the "Terrible Two's." Plus, he now needs to know what everyone is doing and try doing it himself. It's not easy cooking with a 15 month old on your hip and grabbing at the spoon. Although exhausting, this is a really great age. He is so funny, which sometimes makes discipline harder to enforce at times.

We had some problems last month with his breathing. After receiving breathing treatments every 3 to 4 hours daily and nightly, we now only have to do it before he goes to bed. He hates them!

Asher's 1st Birthday

Asher had a great birthday! Lots of people came. He was extremely tired. He woke up Sunday morning with a cold. By Wednesday, it was in his chest. Last night he had a fever of 102.5. I brought him to the doctor this morning, and he does not have an infection. I apologized for the visit, like most first-time moms. However, Dr. Gesn said that the visit was wise, even though it was a common cold. See, people, listen to your gut!

We have been very busy planning parties, going to parties, visiting family, and learning about disappointment.

Orvalle took this picture above. He said this was Asher's reaction when he told him that Aunt Jen would not be attending his party with Uncle Nathan, Rylie, and Sadie. (Orvalle made me post this.)

We took a trip to New Roads where we had lunch with Mr. Randy and Mrs. MaryAnne. False River is across the street, and there are plenty of horses and cows in the backyard. Asher didn't want to leave. To be honest, I didn't either. I use to live just a mile from them. They are like my second parents.

When I was shopping for the party, Orvalle prepared Asher for bed: bathing, feeding, and reading a book, in that order. Orvalle now knows why I feed Asher before bath time.

I'm really behind on my post... again. Here are some pictures of Gavin's birthday. It was the weekend before Asher's party. I did not get any pictures of Gavin and his cake, because Asher was throwing a fit. Yes, we are at that stage. It really isn't that bad unless he is tired. He does have a little attitude though. The joys of parenthood.

So, a year ago, I was STILL pregnant. My due date was August 1, 2008. However, a very large me went to Gavin's 1st birthday party. It would be a whole 14 days pass my due date before Asher would make his arrival, but he was well worth the wait.

We had Trentin's and Kenzi's party at our house two weekends ago. It was a lot of fun. There were so many people, tons of food, cake, and a space walk! The next day Kelli, Donnie, and Kenzi came over to fix the lawn mower and play. Asher was so excited to see Kenzi twice in one weekend.

Well, in two weeks my baby turns 1! It hurts. We have been really busy lately. Things are a little more difficult to accomplish now that he is walking. He is discovering new things everyday! I find myself consuming more coffee lately.

Asher loves blueberries! The top picture is a little scary, but he is showing me the berry in his mouth. In the bottom picture, his lips are almost as blue as his eyes.

Mr. Independent is trying so hard to learn how to feed himself with a spoon. When he eats, I have a spoon and so does he. At first, the spoon went into my mouth a lot. He thought it was so funny! Then, he was able to get it into his mouth. Next, he learn how to dip the spoon into the food. He sometimes is able to scoop the food out. However, he has not put the first and second step together. So, he ends up putting the food on his high chair, grabbing the food and eating it with his hands, and finally putting the empty spoon in his mouth.

Zoo Trip

A few weeks ago, we took Asher on his first visit to the Baton Rouge Zoo. It was hot... very hot! I had to take his shirt and hat off. The heat did not stop Asher from having a good time. He loved looking at all the animals and being there with his cousins.

Summer Fun

Okay, so I know that I have been a bad blogger, but a lot has been going on around here. It's been soooo hot, and Asher loves to be outside and to swim. Orvalle took him swimming in the shade in the yard. Well, not so much swimming as splashing around the baby pool. Asher was so happy! He even got to go swimming with Gavin. In one of my recent post, I explained how much Asher loves his Puffs. I usually buy the banana flavored. Well, I decided to try the Apple and Cinn flavor. I pulled out the container, and Asher went crazy as usual. But when he threw them in his mouth, this is the reaction that I got.

This is NOT a smile. He is looking at me in confusing and wondering what happened to his Puffs. I will not buy that flavor again.

Asher loves snack time, because he loves the Gerber Puffs. This is also a learning time for him. He learns how to feed himself and how to say please and thank you. However, this time has shown me how much work I have cut of from me. He refuse to share his puffs, and he refuses to accept help to feed himself.

Here, I tried to help him when he had trouble getting one of the puffs to his mouth, but he thought I was trying to take it away. So, every time I reached for his hand, he tucked it behind his head. There isn't an article or a chapter in the books for this. Help!

Swimming

We went swimming at Aunt Denise's house. It started to rain in the middle of the party just for a few minutes, but the rain did not stop a really good time!

Asher is feeding himself. Most of the time the puffs end up in his clenched fist, so he uses the opposite hand to guide the other one to his mouth. It's really funny.

Easter Sunday

On Sunday, Asher and I went to Jena to spend Easter with Grammy and Pop-pop. Grammie had put out Orvalle's old Easter basket for the Easter Bunny. After the everyone left, Grammie let Asher dig into all the goodies. She gave him a Peep and some chocolate.

Asher's fat rolls are slowly disappearing due to his NONstop activity, but he is so much fun! I love playing with him, and he loves exploring. I have so many fun pictures from this particular evening that it will take two post. Tomorrow, I will post the rest.

I was doing his laundry. When we were playing, I moved the baskets and clothes to the "grandparents" bed in his room. He tried so hard to get to them. I hope that this means he will be more than willing to help us with chores when he gets older.

Big Bath Tub

Asher has out grown his baby bath tub. Orvalle said to put him in the big tub, but both of the bath tubs are very deep. Thus, I was very reluctant. However, he loves the tub, and he cannot pull up because it is so deep. In other news, Asher's two lateral incisor or fang teeth are coming in. He is teething just like his cousin Gavin. From what I hear, Luke is teething in the same pattern as well.

I finally got a good shot of his bottom two teeth!

He loves playing with his bath toys now. His Grammie gave him some ducks and his Nanna gave him some fish. Bath time is so much fun, but he hates when I lay him back to rinse his hair.

Not So Fun Weekend

Last weekend was supposed to be a very busy, We went to Monroe to see Matt J. He is one of Orvalle's old friends from high school. He is also one of my old friends from La Tech. He is one of the reasons Orvalle and I met. After spending a few days with Uncle Matt, we went to Minden to spend some time with some more friends, the Watkins family. It was Hayden's 2nd birthday! We didn't make the party or the rest of our plans. I got really ill, and we had to go to Jena early on Sunday. Grammie had to take care of Asher while Orvalle took care of me. We had to leave Asher behind on Wednesday. I am feeling better and I miss my baby so much!

Uncle Matt is very talented. Asher was supposed to be playing his bongos while Uncle Matt played the guitar, but Asher was wanted to play the guitar.

Last week, marked three years since my father died. I cannot believe that it has been 3 years since God has called him home. However, I cannot believe what all has happen in that 3 years: I have earned my second degree, got married, bought a house, have 6 beautiful nieces and nephews, and a beautiful baby boy of my own.

On Tuesday, I took Asher to my mom's house where my dad's two sisters and some close cousins gathered for lunch in his memory. It was the first time for a lot of them to meet Asher. He enjoyed the attention from everyone, but he mainly enjoyed his Nanna. I am so lucky Asher has 4 grandparents that love him so much, and the three that are here sure do let him know it.

The other day we took Asher to the local park where Leah, Chad, Gavin, and the twins met us. We all had so much fun.

Luke and Kami both can fit into the same swing! It must have tasted good, Luke seems to think so.

Asher really enjoyed the swings as well. He loved the whole experience. He wanted to follow his cousin Gavin around so bad!

Yesterday, We bought Asher a walker. At first, he was reluctant. He wanted to jump in it like he does in his jumper, but when he went backwards instead of up and down, he look at me in amazement. He got so excited that he was shaking. He first perfected going backwards then forwards. He was getting into trouble left and right. I would say, "No, no. We don't play with the cable box." Asher would just look at me at laugh so hard. Then, he would let out a little cry and a little laugh. It was like he was upset I said no, but thrilled that he can reach all this stuff he has been eyeing for months. I can tell that he is still adjusting to the concept. The walker feels like his jumper but with mobility of crawling, however the mobility is limited.

First Teeth and Crawling

Asher is about to get two bottom teeth! Teething has been a nightmare! His gums are hurting so much. He is putting everything in his mouth. He is also using his new ability to crawl to get into trouble. He loves playing with the things that are off limits i.e. computers, DVDs, et. I put him in his play pin, and he started crying until I got out the camera. Once I put it away, the tears started again, so I took him out and continued to chase after him throughout the living room and kitchen.

I know that it has been a while since I've blogged. So, I will try to catch up! Last month we went to Asher's cousin's 1st birthday. Calib is 6 months older than Asher. I cannot believe that he is one or that in less than 6 months Asher will be one. It seems that time went by so slow when I was pregnant, but now time is flying by so quickly.

6 Month Check Up

Today, we went for Asher's 6 month check up. Dr. Gesn said, "He looks very healthy." She made him try to sit up and stand. According to Dr. Gesn, Asher is very strong, but he has not found his center of gravity. This is why he has not mastered sitting up yet. She said not to worry that he is right on target and will be sitting by himself in no time.

Asher is 20.04 lbs and 27 inches longs. This puts him in the 90th and 75th percentile, respectively speaking. Dr. Gesn said he is not fat; he is just a big boy. She said that it is way too early to predict how tall he will be. However, she looked up statistics and guess his adult height at 5'11. Could it be? Is it possible that Orvalle and I will have a relatively tall child?!

Asher's heart was broken when Nurse Becky gave him his shots, but he forgave her at the end. He did so well. We'll go back at 9 months.

Pop-pop gave Asher a popsicle to sooth his gums the other weekend. You think he like it??? I just sent him with his Nanna. She wanted him for a week. I do need this time to update my resume, do our taxes, among other things. However, I did cry when he left. This will be the longest time that I have ever spent away from him. I don't know how Orvalle does it, being away for two weeks at a time. The house is very empty now. Both my men are gone. This only makes me more hesitate about going back to work. This means less time with both of them. On the other hand, I am so lucky that I have had this time with my son and my husband. It will be an adjustment, but in the mean time, I sure do miss both of them.

Countdown To Crawling

Asher made 5 months on the 14th. He can sit up just for a little bit by himself. He is also on the verge of crawling. We had tummy time yesterday, and he would raise his butt and wiggle. I tried to take a picture of it, but he was too fast. He wiggles, kicks his legs, and rolls around during tummy time.

Asher is teething, so grammy bought him a teething ring that vibrates. He loves it! I tried to get a picture of him, but his interest switched to my camera. At one point, I had to hold the teething ring to his mouth as he reached for the camera.

Okay, so I'm trying to get back to posting regularly. Next post will be current pics. Asher loves all of his new toys, especially the ones that encourage sitting up. He refuses to learn, though. I know he can do it, but he would rather lay on his side and try to put the toy in his mouth. Also, he enjoys sleeping on his stomach now. This means that I no longer sleep because of the fear of SIDs. I think I'm getting my first gray hair.

A Good Christmas

Well, Daddy came in on Christmas day. It was in the evening, but I got what I wanted for Christmas...my two men. Daddy and Asher opened gifts. We went to Jena and had my side over the next weekend. It was a fun two weeks and a great Christmas!

Today, did not start off well. Daddy call us at 6:30 a.m. He is grounded on the rig due to fog. It's about 11:30 a.m., and we are still waiting to see if he is coming home today. However, it is unlikely. The presents are still under the tree, and Santa left the stockings filled. But there is no peaking until daddy comes home. Asher is still in his Christmas pj's and praying that daddy comes home today safely. We love you, daddy.

Christmas Eve

For Christmas Eve, Asher and I went to Uncle Curtis and Aunt Brigette's house. Asher received plenty of gifts and love. My Aunt Cindy, Uncle Reggie, Troy, and Hannah gave Asher a stuffed sheep for Christmas. He fell in love with it. It must taste good too.

This is my cousin Kelli and her little girl, McKenzie. She kept on saying "ba-bee" to Asher. He was her baby doll for the night.

Today, Asher went back to the doctor after receiving treatment for pneumonia. He did not get a nap before the appointment, so he was not in a very good mood. He cried through the entire chest xray. The tech gave him a sticker, but he was still very mad at her. Dr. Gesn said his chest looked much better, and Asher sounded better. He was well enough to get his 4 month shots. He was so mad that his face turned red from screaming. We went home, and he took a nap and a bottle. All is forgiven. He is 17.4 lbs and 25.25 inches.

Sick and Still Playing

Asher doesn't sound better, but I think he is on his way. He still takes long naps, but he is starting to play more and have a little more energy between those long naps. I put him on a pile of blankets to play and sing. I have thrown out tummy time and the routine for now because of the sickness. However, Asher rolls over and plays on his tummy! I really hope that this sickness passes quickly. He is such a happy person even when he is sick!He is progressing and learning so fast. He is in the higher percentile of everything, except for raising his chest with his arms. But he is trying to catch up, as you can see in these pics. He is very competitive. There is a lot of Devall and Randall in this boy!

This morning I woke up and it was snowing! It is still snowing! At this point, I think we have about 3 to 4 inches of snow. Orvalle is thinking of coming home if his flight is cancelled.

Pneumonia

Well, we only had a week with daddy. I was going to make the most of it, but our plans fell through. On Sunday night, I realized that I had a cold, and Asher had a really bad chest cold. We tried everything in the baby books. On Tuesday, he was running an 104.4 fever. I took him to the doctor today. Dr. Gesn ordered a chest xray to be safe, but she thought it was a bad cold. However, the xray revealed pneumonia in Asher's upper left lung! He received a shot and is taking oral medication for the next 10 days. Asher and I had plans this weekend to attend the Randall Christmas, but we are not leaving the house until absolutely necessary. Through this whole ordeal, Asher has been smiling. He is sometimes whinny and wants to be held at times, but he remains a very happy baby. Tonight, we say goodbye to daddy. He will come back on Christmas day!

Daddy came home today. We were so excited to see him. He had a super cool toy for Asher and flowers for me. They played together and had a good time.

An Eye Scare

Today, I had to bring Asher to the doctor. Aunt Leah pointed out yesterday that Asher's eye was really watery, puffy, and red around his eye. I was so scared it was an infection, something in his eye, or that he scratched it. Dr. Gesen gave him a look over and said he was fine. She explained... We produce tears all day long, and they drain through the nasal cavity. Some babies have really narrow tear ductiles, and they get backed up and swollen. She said a warm compress should do the trick. I was relieved. We did find out that Asher weighs 16.5 lbs and is 25.5 inches! Even the nurse said he was a big baby. Maybe that random tall gene did take to Asher. We'll see! Dr. Gesen also asked if he was a good baby, and he really is. Orvalle and I are so blessed to have such a happy baby, but it's not like we would return him if he wasn't :) We go back to Dr. Gesen in two weeks for his 4 month check up.

Gavin, Kami, and Luke came over today. Me and Nanna kept all four of the kids while Aunt Leah did some running around town. Asher loved seeing his cousins two days in a row! Leah (sister-in-law), Karri (my sister), and I all bought the kids' Christmass outfits from Old Navy. Trentin was too big for the outfit. We decided to get all of them together for a photo shoot. The three of us agreed that this picture needs to be on an Old Navy billboard. Calib, Asher, Kami, Luke, and Gavin all in their Christmass outfits! Kami is the only girl. Poor thing!

They were all tired of trying to get the shot. It looks like Calib is planning a get-a-way plan with Asher and Kami.

Last night we went to my friend's wedding. The bride, groom, wedding party, and decor were all beautiful, but that didn't stop Asher from getting some attention. He was very good through the service, but he started to get tired at the reception. Plus, I think he thought the band was loud. This is my friend, Heather from high school. She fell in love with Asher. They had a good time together.

Well, we went to Thanksgiving in New Roads, yesterday. Ms. Maranda and Mrs. Keri both invited us to their parents' house. For lunch, we went to see Ms. Maranda, Mrs. MaryAnne, and Mr. Randy. Asher was the only child there. Everyone fell in love with him. That evening, we went to Mrs. Keri's family dinner. Asher was not the only child, but he was the youngest. All the kiddies loved watching him. Asher was so tired he fell asleep as soon as we got home at 8:30 and sleep until 8 a.m. this morning. Today, we are going to Nanny's house. We should have lots of fun there too.

Asher rolled over for the first time today! I am so proud of him! It's funny...the simple things amuse a child. However, the most simplistic things amuse the parents. He is growing so fast, and all I can do is enjoy and absorb it all.

Two weeks ago at grammie's, we discovered that Asher's diaper kept leaking. Well, Orvalle went to the store to buy the next size up after three soaking outfits later. Mrs. Lindi told me to use the old diapers for short periods of time. Well, today, I put the old diaper size on Asher just for tummy time. This is when I discovered my child had plumber's butt! Looks like cousins Kami and Luke just got a bag of diapers.

Asher fell asleep with his hands up like this. I guess he was waiting for me to put him in his crib. He sleeps in the funniest positions. He is never in the same spot where I put him. He almost always ends up side ways in his crib. Just the other night I thought he was going to roll over for the first time, because he was sleeping on his side! But he returned to his back shortly.
